On A Very Special Episode of Let’s Talk Clothes it’s just me in the studio talking about holiday outfits — past, present, and future. In this episode we cover: memories from childhood as well as more current outfits, both listener sent-in as well as my own. Pour yourself a cup of something warm, snuggle up, and let’s dive in!
Our first batch of listener stories, rather fittingly, come from our very first guest, Alyssa Newman. Alyssa recalls childhood holiday outfits, and traditions of always getting something new to wear on Christmas day.
This tradition has continued, not only for Alyssa, but also for her two (incredibly adorable) nieces! Now Alyssa gets to take part in selecting Christmas outfits for her nieces.
Between myself and listener stories, a lot of childhood holiday outfit memories include some combination of: bold prints, velvet, lace, and satin. In all fairness I think that’s just holiday outfits for children in general, but I have a sneaking suspicion that anyone who grew up in the late 80s and early 90s dealt with a lot of those fabrics.
What would be a holiday outfit episode without a nod to the wildly popular ugly Christmas (holiday?) sweater. While I am very fond of my own ugly Christmas sweater (as worn by my boyfriend, and past guest, Arman, in the episode photo), I think this year Michelle’s ugly sweater takes the cake. Unfortunately she did not win the holiday outfit competition (listen to the ep to find out which one of her coworkers did).
Other things covered in this episode: my dream of owning a closet like Cher’s in Clueless, the concept of “church clothes”, and my love of Mean Girls trumping my dislike of online shopping. Why? Because you go, Glen Coco.
Thanks for tuning in! Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season, and a wonderful New Year!
